Hi, I’m looking fir a words that describes a type of charity drive involving the sale of different types of goods to raise money for charity. I’m sure there’s a word for it but it escapes me now.

I tend to think of “jumble sale” as being British. I don’t hear many people talking about a “charity sale” but the meaning seems clear enough.
Is charity sale a British term or American term? I’ve only heard of jumble sale or rummage sale. I thought charity sale sounded strange until I saw it on Google.

I’ve never heard the term “charity sale” although the meaning is immediately obvious.
The phrasing I usually see is something like “yard/tag/rummage sale to benefit [cause]”

Wikipedia doesn’t even list it. It must be a very recently coined word.

I’ve never heard the term. In the parts of the American Midwest where I’ve lived, it’s usually either a “garage sale” or a “rummage sale”. “Charity sale” seems to suggest that the proceeds might be going towards a charity, rather than being simply a family unloading their old stuff for a little profit.
Charity sale would be a sale by a church or group specifically to raise money, I would think. I can’t say as I’ve ever heard it used.
Yard sale or garage sale was the term in California, usually meaning an individual selling stuff. The term here in the northeast is tag sale. There are sometimes “block sales” or “community tag sales” when sellers get together, either for individual or charity profit.
A rummage sale seems to be the closest thing to your question - those are usually by a group or org with donated goods.
I live in England and I’ve only ever heard ‘jumble sale’ plus more recently ‘car boot sale’.
Although ‘car boot sale’ is usually for the benefit of a person, rather than a charity…

It matches the Chinese word for word.(慈善义卖 （ci2shan4yi4mai4) There are a lot of words entering English, many I suspect from non-native speakers translating their words into English. The Germans did it in New York with “Enough already!” (in German "Genug schon!)

No, you’re remembering perfectly. Lots and lots of them. Each shop is linked to a specific charity and accepts donations of stuff which they then sell to raise money for the charity concerned.
Never heard charity sale as a particular phaae before though.
That’s the term that I first thought of too.
