Friends, some time ago I started a thread about playing Aliens Vs Predator ( Fox Interactive) on Windows XP. There were some links and suggestions and I tried but no dice, so I would like some recommendations for FPS games like the old AvP. What I am looking for is a FPS with dark corridors, tense atmosphere and well, the ability to scare the pants off you. In other words a modern AvP for Windows XP and the newer computer systems. I am looking for ideas, can anyone help me out?
inevitably there will be suggestions for games like *System Shock * or Bioshock or whatever. do not be deceived! these may be fun but nothing, NOTHING, is as scary as playing a marine in AvP.
although the first part of *Clive Barker’s Undying * in the haunted mansion is a contender. (old game, sorry. /subscribes to thread)
“That’s it man, game over man, game over! What the fuck are we gonna do now? What are we gonna do?”
I thought an AVP (Association of Volleyball Professionals) type game where you could play volleyball against bikini clad hotties would be a pretty good idea.
Well, not exactly AvP style, but I recently started playing STALKER and there were moment where I thrown couple of grenades and emptied two AK magazines into dark corridor before realizing that first grenade killed enemy… Or that sneaking through grassy field at night, and then sudden bark nearby and frantic run while reloading shotgun and trying to see from which side they will come in the faint light of flashlight. Not AvP, but certainly can be scary and have tense atmosphere.
If you wait a few months, Aliens: Colonial Marines will be out in early 2009. It’s being developed by the guys who did the Brothers in Arms series, Gearbox.
In my opinion AvP II has the tensest intro of any game I’ve played. As a marine you have a good 7 mins of gameplay where things are happening around you but nothing too you (you see a body dragged into a vent off to one side you see a bridge being blown up etc etc) by the time I was crawling through some vents I actually opened fire when some type of insect fluttered into my vision.
