My wonderful girlfriend and I are looking to get a carpet cleaner. The problem is that we haven’t got the foggiest which is better than another.
Opinions, people! Gimme! It’s wall-to-wall carpeting, if that makes any difference.

I’ve only owned one, so I don’t know how it compares, but I like it. It’s a Bissell ProHeat. It’s easy to use and although our carpet is a dark color, I know it’s working because the water gets filthy. Even though I vacuum before cleaning, it gets up an incredible amount of pet hair. It cost about $300 and I’ve used it for five years.
I’ve owned several carpet cleaners. I used to swear by the Bissells, but the last time I was shopping I read reviews about their decreased quality. I bought a Hoover SpinBrush last time. I love it! It does a great job of scrubbing the carpet fibers, and leaves the carpet much drier than my old Bissell machines did.
I have off-white wall-to-wall carpeting and pets. I live on a farm and have alot of outside chores to perform and stalls to muck out. So I track quite a bit of the outdoors onto my carpet. The Hoover makes my carpets presentable for company, and I’m very happy with it.
I purchased it online at Costco.com for about $279.00
Excellent. Any more suggestions, folks?
We’ve had this one for a little over a year, and we’ve been very happy with it. However, our only bases for comparison are an ancient Bissell we borrowed from a relative and the ones you rent at the grocery store. Ours works substantially better than both of those.
Just rent one, trying different brands, until you find one you like. Then buy one of that model.
We bought a Hoover SpinScrub steam vac all-terrain. Yeah, I know. But it’s a very efficient and effective carpet cleaner. The “all-terrain” refers to its ability to clean vinyl surfaces, if desired. It also has a hose attachment for doing stairs. I’ve also read that Bissell has declined in quality.
