Looking for a European city break in January

I was in Budapest in mid-October of this year and we didn’t have any migrant-related problems. OK, we weren’t in the region of Keleti station but to be honest, you wouldn’t know where was anything untoward going on.

There are some fabulous places to visit in and around the city, and there is a very good hop on-hop off bus that will take you to all the major tourist traps. It is cold though, you’ll need plenty of layers to keep warm, but on the plus side there are plenty of excellent places for coffee and yummy cakes!

We’ve finally chosen something. We’re going to take the Eurostar to Lille for a two night break. I’ll keep the other suggestions in mind for when the weather is better.

Hammerfest, Norway. Best place to see the northern lights.

Yeah, but you can go to St. Louis or Milwaukee or Cleveland instead!! What, I’m not helping?

20+ year St. Louis resident here. I’ve felt your pain.

Don’t forget Little Rock. It’s nicer in January; not so hot as summer.

A winter weekend in STL? The bald eagle viewing program at Pere Marquette State Park is fantastic. Especially when led by (Scott?) Isringhausen, who I understand no longer does this. Hopefully his replacement is a good one.
