Looking for a James Thurber story

It has been over thirty five years since I was a junior in high school, but I remember reading a short story (more like an essay) by James Thurber where he spoke enthusiastically and passionately about machines. Not a particular machine, but more about the wonder of all machines, the work that they do and the people who design and create them. Sort of like how some people are passionate about the design, performance and driving of a classic car. A love of the creativity and ingenuity put into a machine.

It has been a while, but I believe this was something Thurber wrote. It was what first endeared me to him and his works. If anyone is familiar with this piece and can point me to a webpage where it might be found or the book in which it was published, I would be grateful. I haven’t been able to locate anything on the web myself.

If it wasn’t Thurber, does anyone know who it was?
