Just wanted to pop in and join the welcoming committee. I live in Adams Morgan, which is behind the National Zoo (free! pandas!) and north of Dupont Circle. I have lived here almost 10 years (5 in my present apartment) and I love it.
Let me add the chorus - get a place near the Metro if you can. I park my car out front and never use it.
Parking is something I think another Doper has brought up, but it’s worth mentioning again. If you find a place without parking included in the terms of the rent, or if they specifically say it’s not included, you’ll spend many unhappy hours circling your neighborhood like a shark, looking for a spot. I finally quit trying, and take the Metro to work every day.
You have so much to look forward to - the museums that make up the Smithsonian are an inexhaustable treasure. And there are restaurants from every country you can think of and some that may be fictional.
Feel free to email me with any questions about your new home, and welcome!
Thanks for the welcome kalex. I’m looking forward to all the free stuff there. NM doesn’t have a lot of that sort of thing.
After looking a couple of apartments, Mr Kangaroo has concluded that we will likely need a storage unit. He can’t seem to find any on the web.
Anybody know of any?
Thanks.
First, be sure to check out what storage facilities the complexes have on site. If you find on site storage to be inadequate, Public Storage and Storage USA are the the big chains around here.
Thanks Jeff. That’s exactly the sort of thing I was thinking of.
Hope I’ll be forgiven for the bump.
I just wanted to say that we arrived in the area late Monday. We’re still without a place to live, and Mr. Kangaroo is still without a job. However, we have a place to stay, and there are a couple of promising places we might be able to move into.
Four days in a moving van, two cats and two humans…and we all survived. After that, I’m sure that nothing is impossible.
