looking for advice re Voice Recognition in Windows Vista

I’m probably going to be shopping for a new computer next week. Most shiny bells and whistles don’t interest me, so I’d be quite satisfied to get an XP model. But there is exactly one feature in Vista which interests me, and that is Voice Recognition.

I’m trying to find out how good the Vista version is. I’ve run a few googles, and almost everything is a year or two old, from when Vista first came out, and the pre-release hype. I recall MicroSoft released an update for Vista a couple of months ago, so I’m hoping someone can give me some more recent and up-to-date opinions.

Basically my choice is whether to buy an XP machine plus Naturally Speaking 9, or a Vista machine and use Microsoft’s version. Thanks for all input!

It doesn’t do what you think it does. It seems to be for people who are blind, or nearly so, so they can use their computer still. If it does anything like Natural Speaking does (I’m using NS version 8 currently), it’s news to me. I couldn’t get it to do much the one time I opened it.
