I like reading superhero fiction novels (words, as opposed to the comics), and I read many of the free eBooks I can find on Amazon. I read a particular book a few years ago, and would now like to find that book again as inspiration for creating an RPG character.
A teenage boy starts gradually developing superpowers. First is teleportation. Later, it’s either invisibility or some kind of super-vision (wherein he can set a fix on someone and locate them later, among other things) --whichever it actually was, the other follows next. Then intangibility. He also learns to apply his powers to other people and things: teleporting them, making them invisible, etc. This all happens over the course of several weeks or months. I don’t think there are superheroes in this novel; the boy’s ideas for use do tend toward ‘punishing evil,’ at least in part. He frees several children from a trafficking ring, and later punishes the criminals by teleporting them into a huge hole in the desert (?), effectively killing them.
Near the end of the book, years after it starts, he discovers one of the children he’d rescued, now a teenager herself and with a terminal illness. He takes her to the moon before she dies.
Don’t have a title, an author, even a year of publication, but do know I read it more than a year ago and less than 5 years ago at the very outside (although it of course could have been written 20 years ago for all I know). If anyone has ever come across such, I’d be grateful for any information. Thanks!
