Looking for hangikjöt

No, it’s not a person, a beer or a new element, it’s Icelandic smoked lamb. My mother has, over the years, made it at Christmas here in the U.S., but she has always had to have it shipped by reletives in Iceland. It’s then boiled for a few hours and served with white sauce, and has the best salty meat flavor in the known universe.

Does anyone know of a place that might sell it by mail order, either in Iceland or in the U.S., for shipment to the Seattle area? I have searched high and low and can find no English language web sites that sell it.

After months of searching, I figured I’d ask the smartest, best looking people in the internet.

If it is of any help, “fårfiol” or “rökt lammstek” (the same thing in Swedish) might show up on some searches. Dunno about boiling tho, it’s generally just eaten as cold-cuts here. Might not be the same thing  But it might!

I found out this past Christmas that hangikjöt is being served as cold cuts now, something that may have been around a while but was new to me. The flavor was close, but it tasted processed, too.

Hangikjöt that I’m looking for looks more like a tied roast. but I’ll look for what you suggested and see if it’s the same. Thanks!
