Looking for hard candies in the South Bay

There’s a restaurant I go to (for maybe 35 years now) in Torrance, in the South Bay in Los Angeles County, that keeps a bowl of mints and other hard candies on the counter by the cash register. One item I’ve found in the bowl–there and at no other restaurant–is “root beer barrels,” little brown hard candies shaped like old-fashioned wooden barrels; they taste like root beer. Do any Dopers in the South Bay know of a store that sells packaged root beer barrels?

I think I’ve seen them and similar old-fashioned candies at CVS drug stores.

If not CVS, try the Rite Aid. Drugstores tend to carry these things.
Otherwise, do you have an old timey candy store nearby? Powell’s maybe?

The only real candy store I know of is on the third level of the South Bay Galleria, near the food court…

Visit a Claim Jumper, and grab as many as you can (they really don’t mind).

Root Beer Barrels.

My mom always kept hard candies in the house and those root beer barrels were always among them along with the yellow, orange green and red ones. I remember them cutting up the roof of my mouth. Anyway, she always bought them in the bulk candy bins at the regular supermarket. At the time that would have been either Safeway or maybe a Ralph’s. Not sure what major chains are out there now but my point is she didn’t have to go to a specialty store. Of course, that was a long time ago. If I may ask, to what restaurant are you referring in the OP?

Spires, specifically.

Have you looked there?
