Looking for info about an old thread about scifi book

I believe it was way, way back in January that there was a thread on SDMB about SciFi books that were pro capitalism or pro democracy.

There was some dicussion about a book written, I believe, in the early 70s by a female author that had something to do with a colonized, thriving planet that was threatened by the unstable home planet.

Does anyone remember this thread, or does this book sound familiar? Any info would help. The name of the author is on the tip of my tongue, but I just can’t remember it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
