Looking for info on North Carolina

flup–you almost had me ready to move there, but then I remembered–you use ketchup in your barbecue sauce:D:D

missbunny, I’ll be joining you in the area in about a year. I visit the area frequently. I haven’t found the humidity to be a problem, but then again, I spent a lot of time in Florida and found that climate quite comfortable. I’ve found apartments and housing rentals to be comparable to Northeast rates. Buying costs appear to be considerable less. If you jump just outside of Chapel Hill to the Carrboro area, residence costs drop quite a bit. The buses run from Carrboro to Chapel Hill quite regularly, but I don’t know how many stops in Carrboro are made. I can’t help you out in the employment area as I haven’t yet made those preparations.

Oh my. This goes from sounding really great to sounding really awful. It’s that damn humidity! It sounds like I’m not going to be able to escape it unless I go to CA (not too likely) or AZ (heck no). I guess what I really want is to have several homes in different areas of the country so that I can move from one to the other as the seasons change. sigh that’s never going to happen, unfortunately.

I have also thought about VA but I kind of feel that the winters wouldn’t be short enough and warm enough. It is really pretty there though; I had once considered law school at either UVA or Washington & Lee largely for the beauty of the landscape.

Anyway, before I actually moved anywhere - NC or anyplace else - I would take a few trips to wherever to check things out. Thanks again to everyone - your information has been really helpful.

Hey, I’m a transplant from California living here in the Raleigh area. Been here a little over a year now, and I’m surviving the humidity just fine. Dry heat is definately better, but don’t let all this talk of dampness get ya down.
