Looking for information on Montreal underground

I’m supposed to be taking my nieces up to the Montreal underground city (tomorrow - this was a last minute idea). I haven’t been there recently so I’m looking for advice.

They’ll want to go shopping. What’s a good section of the underground for that? (Stores that teenaged girls would like.) Preferably one with an easy-to-find access with good parking nearby.

We’ll also need a good relatively cheap place to eat. Possibly crepes.

Any advice appreciated.

Use McGill metro station as your starting point. From there, you can access:
-Promenades de la cathedrale (whole mall built under a cathedral, after the cathedral was in place)
-Centre Eaton
-Place Ville-Marie (from tunnel from centre eaton)
-Place Montreal trust (from other tunnel from centre eaton)
-yet another underground mall east from place montreal trust
-Cours mont-royale (very tony & upscale) east of the above mall

I’m pretty sure most of these malls also have undergroung parking, but I know Place Montreal trust and place ville-marie do. It’s worth the expensive parking to be able to put all your winter outerwear in the trunk and wander around in shirtsleves at this time of year.

In terms of teen-aged girls, well that seems to be the prime target demographic for all of them according to this old geezer, so I suspect you should be fine there.

There was a lovely crepe cafe just upstairs from the Cour Mont-Royale that was cheap, but the food courts in the montreal malls tend to have nicer stuff than Toronto or calgary, I find. Don’t know how it stacks up to New-York though. I like the the szechuan and Indian ones especially. There was also a nice crepe joint in the eaton center food court last time I was there.

Good luck. Perhaps more current montreal dopers can chime in. I think there’s even a cookie place where you get a freebie if you say you’re a friend of Cecil Adams…

Maybe you can get ahold of poster matt_mcl in time. He’s a bit of a Montreal transportation expert.
