Looking for legal help

First off, I’m not asking my fellow dopers for legal advice, I’m looking for help finding out where I can get legal advice. To be more clear, I live in Georgia and I have a simple question about Georgia law that I need to ask a lawyer. My Google-Fu is weak and I can’t find any sites to direct me to lawyers who will charge a nominal fee or nothing for a quick consultation. Any suggestions and/or sites?

Thanks in advance - DESK

Freeadvice Legal Forums. I’m not going to guarantee you will get the answer you want but it is a start.

racer, while that site looks very handy and I thank you for it, My specific question could get me into some trouble (not legally - but still, headaches I don’t need). I was looking more for a one-on-one consultation, either by phone or face-to-face. Sorry for being so vague, but I could end up with some people in my life being upset with me if they knew what I wanted to ask a lawyer.

Try the Atlanta Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral & Information Service; or the Cobb County Bar Association’s Lawyer Referral Service; or look here for your local bar association website, then look for a lawyer referral service. Typically, that will cost you $30 to $50 for a consultation with a lawyer. Good luck.

Ok.

  1. Start here. http://www.lsc.gov/fundprog.htm.

Legal Services will take you to various Legal Aid progams. If your question is clear cut, they may answer your question over the phone. Otherwise, you will need to be income eligible (i.e., poor, or nearly poor).

  1. Your next best bet is your state and local bar associations. They have referral programs to lawyer who do pro bono work, and sometimes they even have hotlines.

Hope this helps.

Another good listing.

Thanks for the links all, they’re quite helpful.
