Looking for news story about Lithuania during Cold War

From 1944 until 1990 Lithuania was occupied by the former USSR. In 1990 it declared its independence. Sometime during the early 90’s there was a news story regarding the Lithuanian embassy. From 1944 until 1990 it was essentialy run by either the last ambassador or his family. No money, no support from home country, etc. It was an absolutely fascinating story of human perseverence and determination.

I have a neighbor with some Lithuanian ancestry and he’s never heard the story. Trying to track down the item has exhausted my google-fu skills. I think, but am not certain, it was in the Wall St. Journal.

Does anyone else remember the story or provide some clue on how to find it? Thanks in advance.

Did a google search on lithuania embassy in exile, these links came up.

Thanks *Spudbucket * good articles. Still hoping to find the other one.

In short (for those not reading the above links), the USA never recognized the Soviet annexation of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. So the US recognized the governments of those countries as sovereign nations, and each of them still had embassies in the USA.
