I’m looking for an old comedy routine. I saw it once, I think it was linked in a cracked.com article sometime in the last few months. It’s in black and white and is shown on a split screen. The basic premise is an adult man calls his mother, and she starts saying things like “it’s about time you called” or “you never call” and that she could have been sick or injured, iirc. Even just the name of the comedy team would be appreciated. Thanks!
Stiller and Meara did phone call routines. I don’t recall that one in particular.
It sounds like Elaine May and Mike Nichols. This particular sketch amuses me because of the references to the Vanguard program.
That was the other couple I was trying to remember. The two couples did a lot of similar skits.
It’s kind of funny that Nichols keeps forgetting that she’s supposed to be his mother. “Honey”, “darling”…
Nichols & May! That’s it! Thanks!
Please! The term used in the industry is sketches!
“Skits” are what you do biweekly in high school German class to show you’ve learned the material correctly.
He isn’t forgetting. It’s an element of the subject of the sketch: the excessive attachment between them and overcompensating for the guilt she’s laying on him for not calling her.
