Okay, eBay is hopeless so I turn to the Dopers!
Does anybody know of a place or person who is selling psychological testing instruments such as WPPSI-III, ADOS, WISC-IV, and Mullen? Possibly also ASDS, ABI, and Social Response Scales?
They would need to be new or very gently used, current and complete.
Can anybody help me out? Thanks!
We have LCSW and MSW where I work. I’ll ask them about it tomorrow.
You have the credentials to buy them, right? The WISC-IV is a C level test, so according to the Harcourt Assessment site:
“C-level tests require verification of a doctorate in psychology, education, or a related field, or licensure. If you have certification by certain agencies or national organizations, such as ASHA or NBCOT, you may be able to purchase C-level products based on your training or expertise.”
No offense intended, but sometimes people don’t know that tests are protected and aren’t available to non-professionals.
To be perfectly honest, it’s all about price. Not credentials.
I am not sure what you mean, but I do know that it is unethical for you to buy tests (new or used) that you are not credentialed to interpret, and it is unethical for someone to sell you tests that you are not credentialed to interpret. Tests are not in the public’s hands for many reasons. One is to protect the test so that it remains valid. If IQ tests are available for study, for example, it renders them worthless. The other is that people who do not have the education to understand the test do not give it and give the people who they give it to half-assed interpretations.
In short, if you have the credentials and are just looking for a bargain used test, more power to you. If not, you shouldn’t buy them.
Sorry, you do misunderstand. As I am the one with access to boards, I posted the thread. The person purchasing the diagnostics has a PhD in psychology as well as a clinical license. She is absolutely qualified and certified to administer the tests and interpret the results. Cool?
I am merely the messenger, but thanks for being concerned that a scam might be happening.
The tools themselves can cost thousands of dollars each, and it can be difficult for someone just starting our on their own to purchase them at full retail price. There is a secondary market for them, as long as they are complete and current.
Ok, very cool. Sorry I misunderstood. Have you looked in the APA Monitor? Seems like I have seen them there. I checked the local psych association website here–nothing.
Looking at them now, thanks… had issues with my internet today or I would have looked sooner!
