I don’t know if there’s a name for the entire structure other than ‘hump’.
This document refers to the musculature as the infraspinatus secundus.
No the document shows the details of the inner muscles, but admits that the little infraspinatus is almost ignorablel, but the bear makes so much use of the scapula, that one is more easily “found” in the bear. Its not to say its the major part of the hump !
The grizzly’s scapula is proud from the spine, and the main muscle connecting across between would be the posterior part of the trapezoid. As you would develop a large trapezoid by lifting, you would develop larger traps by pushing too.
The rhomboids and latimus dorsi would also be there in it too. Fat seems to grow on muscles, and the volume over the spine may be fat not muscle ?? Fat isn’t the reason the hump exists, but if the muscle is there, the fat might be filling it out a bit more .
Thanks Isilder. Very helpful.
