This is a song about depression. It is sung from the cats point of view So sad, so sweet, and so funny— can’t resist posting the lyrics.
The Weakerthans - Plea From A Cat Named Virtute
*(this is the cat singing to his owner to try to snap him out of his depression)*
Why don’t you ever want to play?
I’m tired of this piece of string
You sleep as much as I do now
And you don’t eat much of anything
I don’t know who you’re talking to
I made a search through every room
But all I found was dust that moved
In shadows of the afternoon
And listen, about those bitter songs you sing?
They’re not helping anything
They won’t make you strong
One of my favorite bands. Unfortunately The Weakerthans broke up this year.
They wrote another song about Virttute. If you own a cat, have ever owned a cat, or know what a cat is do not listen to “Virtute Explains Her Disappearance,” unless you like sobbing uncontrollably. That’s not a song about depression, that’s a depressing song.
I stepped out on the guard rail, saw the crowds slowly part
Heard a voice shouting “Don’t jump, please for God’s sake let me move my car!”
Felt a hand on my shoulder, heard a voice cry “Just in time!”
Felt the quick push, felt the air rush
Felt the sidewalk, fell in line
