Looking for unbiased assessment of Romney as governor.

Has factcheck.org or other groups done a reasonably unbiased assessment of Romney as governor?

I’d really like to know what kind of governor he was. Not his politics. What kind of leader he was. How well he worked with the state legislature. How well he handled any natural disasters or crises. How many pardons did he grant? Governors do a lot of work that isn’t directly political. A hurricane victim doesn’t care if you are Rep or Dem.

There should be something out there by now.

From today’s Boston Globe.

Wikipedia also provides some balance, along with cites. One of the things I learned that impressed me is that he doesn’t go for political patronage. He appoints people for their managerial skills rather than their political loyalty.

Hmmm… I found this cite referred to by CBS. 15 of his 17 political appointments in 2006 were also his political donors. That’s not to say these people were not qualified, but that’s a pretty large “coincidence”.

In fairness, the Wikipedia article in context seems to imply that it’s his initial cabinet that was selected for mangerial ability. Maybe in his last year he just said the hell with it and started rewarding cronies.

Heck, he was already running for president back then. After the first few years he started looking more at the national stage.
