Loose and Lose are 2 different words!!!

I don’t know why, but in the past year the number of times I have seen someone use the word “loose” in place of “lose” seems to have increased exponentially. What is this, a conspiracy? I can understand people slipping between here/hear, or to/too/two, but these two words aren’t even pronounced the same! Maybe they want me to “loose” my mind.

I’d just have to beleive its due to twitchy fingers. A type if you will. Isn’t this a pit thread? I dunno I’m a newbie.

That’s one of my pet peeves as well. But it hasn’t been just the last year - I’d say the last five years has seen the use of “loose” in exchange for “lose” become almost accepted as an alternative spelling.

Too bad, because it drives me insane. I’m going to loose my mind.

I recall reading somewhere on the board that some typographical errors, such as “loose” for “lose” and “hte” for “the”, have become so common that bulletin board veterans will use the misspellings deliberately, in an inside-joke sort of way. If you’re seeing it in other reading as well, such as newspapers, I’m not sure what would be causing that.

While we’re somewhat on the subject, let’s enlighten people to the fact that you’re is an abbreviation for the words ‘you are’ and your means ‘belonging to you’

A small matter, to be sure, but still a pet peeve of mine.

(Looks at “Born to Loose” tattoo on shoulder …)

Boy, do I feel like a looser now.
