Lori Lightfoot (Chicago mayor) goes off on Twitter

From an LGBT source https://www.lgbtqnation.com/2021/04/lori-lightfoot-laughs-off-absurd-sounding-homophobic-sex-scandal-rumors/

Who Da F are these people spreading these “rumors”? Unless someone can come up with credible proof I have to say that this is hogwash that has already washed many hogs before getting those particular hogwash.

Yeah, but if you hated her, maybe you could use this rumor stuff to really slam her. Me, I hope she resigns and Berie Sanders replaces her!

I’m not the biggest fan of Lightfoot (I don’t dislike her either) but there was nothing that I see that’s even hyperbolic in those tweets, let alone unhinged. I can’t understand the OP at all. This is an extremely bizarre thread to start.

Lightfoot aside, my general view on politicians having affairs is:

  1. Are they doing so in a way that impacts on their position (and, particularly, are they spending public money in the pursuit of the affair)?
  2. Have they previously campaigned on, or otherwise assumed, a position of moral rectitude and condemnation of deviation from “traditional family values”?
  3. Are all parties involved consenting and informed adults?

Basically, if they’re still doing their job, not abusing their position, not breaking the law and not being openly hypocritical in a way that pertains to their public position, then their infidelity is a matter to be sorted out between the politician and their spouse.

Yup, that was part of the complaint against Lightfoot was that the city was paying for hotels for her to have affair(s)

You may or may not be wrong. But how can you possibly know that it has contributed nothing good? I don’t care for Twitter myself, but I do see that it has a use. For one thing, it tends to be the source of real time news issues. People with phones at the source are faster than the news crews.

It’s been used to organize, mobilize, and inform social protests around the world, so it’s got its place.

Maybe she’s simply not far enough left for them.

I have no idea what “news” you are watching, but I live in this area and see detailed Chicago news every day. COVID vaccinations are speeding up at a continuous rate, and Lightfoot is the one pushing the teachers union to get back to work. The high schools are now back in session as of today, in fact. Other than some violence on a small and limited scale, the events of this week have been peaceful demonstrations, not “riots”.

This is the strangest thread, possibly ever, probably this this year, definitely this month.

And it’s been used in parts of the world where there isn’t a free press. I do see value in it.

I suspect, like everything else, you get out of it what you put into it. It only shows you the feed of those you follow, and maybe some of their followers. If you are getting Kardashian tweets, that’s on you.

Well, that should be easily verifiable. Has it been verified?

I also live here.

  1. Lori’s race based Covid strategy was a disaster. I’m glad Kamala came here and talked some sense into her. I also noticed that Kamala didn’t have a joint press conference with Lori.

  2. The CTU played Lori like a fool last week, knowing she’d be under pressure. The announcement that no student would be held back didn’t get enough coverage. The incompetent, overpaid and underworked teachers of the CTU won’t be held accountable.

  3. While I’m glad there weren’t serious riots, the sheer number of gang shootings this weekend is horrific.

Was Lori shooting the gangs in self-defense?

That’s the sort of “tough on crime” approach Chicago needs in a Mayor! We haven’t seen that sort of initiative since Mayor Mike Haggar.

Wait, so they’re joining a large part of the rest of the US, and that’s Lightfoot’s fault?

Also, it’s nice to see how you feel about teachers. That’s about all I can say about that.

I don’t know shit about what’s going on in Chicago on a day to day basis, but the above statement alone makes me assume that the rest of your post is complete and utter horseshit. There isn’t a teacher in America who has had it easy during the pandemic unless there was no class whatsoever. The vast majority of them have had to work harder than normal, thanks to having to deal with weird combinations of in-person and remote learning, often at the same time due to parent choice.

I get it, you hate the teacher’s union with a passion for multiple (mostly bogus) reasons, such as the fact that they support Black Lives Matters, but hating them most certainly doesn’t make you correct, and being this wrong puts the rest of your stance in question purely through association.

Everyone has had it weird at work during the pandemic and many were lucky if they were not laid off. That is neither here nor there.

Chicago teachers are among the best paid teachers in the country. They earn very respectable salaries, even great salaries. They also have an outrageously good pension fund that pays them back everything they put in within five months of retirement. Retirement is at 55 and they will get over $76,000/year for life.

Chicago teachers do not need a raise. Far, far from it. They have an exceptional salary and benefits package and do quite well for themselves.

I’ve had to work from home. I haven’t had to struggle managing my team not knowing who would be in class, who would be home, or even where I’d be tomorrow. Even if I did, my team isn’t made up of children with varying levels of parental hand-holding in the remote environment. Teachers might be better off than people who were laid off, but they certainly haven’t had it easy. Their job is far harder than your typical office worker in this situation. So it is here and there.

You’ll also note that what I specifically responded to was the below:

Is a large portion of the membership of the CTU all the above?
