Lost: ABC considering end date

Link

On one hand I’m really glad to see there is an end in sight…but, possibly not until season 7? Ugh.

I hope that should ABC decide, whether committing to this scheme or not, to pull the plug earlier than season seven that it will do so with enough lead time for the series to be wrapped up decently without leaving a million dangling plotlines. But honestly I’m not sure I can quite stand the idea of watching four more seasons of this show, whether I knew an end were in sight or not. Not that there’s any reason to believe that even with an end date the plots will be sewn up satisfactorily anyway.

I don’t mind 7 seasons, as long as we get answers to some questions and new ones gets asked.

And as long as it doesn’t make the same mistakes that X-files did.

But 4 or 5 would probably be more realistic in that sense.

I dunno…the article seems to hint that the writers are sort of begging ABC to make up their minds so they can do precisely that - wrap stuff up.

I heard from a co-worker that some ex-Lost writers revealed that they’re making up the plot as they go and don’t have much of a long-term plan for the show?

Any truth? I’m sure it’s true to some degree regardless, hell, they pretty much concede that point when they brought up the Hatch on the second season DVD bonus features.

This show is still on? Seriously? What, do people like to have their buttons pushed, or what? It was an interesting concept and a couple of delicious, genre-bending moments in the first season (I haven’t watched subsequent series, but by the comments of co-workers, it sounds as if they’ve fallen into the trap of ever-increasingly ludicrous cliff-hangers with no conceivable resolution in order to keep people returning) but beyond that they had really weak follow-through. Like a passionate relationship, it’s probably best to cut it off abruptly and let the good memories remain without being tainted by the long slide to oblivion. Just sayin’.

Stranger

There’ve been some statements in the official podcast to the effect of there is a known end point but the writers don’t know how they’re going to get from here to there.

Caution - There be spoilers ahead

**Stranger On A Train ** - I sort of agree. I just started watching the show on DVD a few weeks ago, and thanks to my friend who taped season 3, I’m now almost caught up with the live show, which I think gives me a unique perspective seeing as I watched a series stretched out for 2.5 years in about 3 weeks.

First off, I’m hooked on it; though I’m sure that’s more by virtue of the immediate gratification I got watching the episodes back-to-back; the result may have been significantly different were there a week lull in between.

With that said, the show has started to annoy me lately. Specifically, the show will introduce a new twist every other episode, which generally comes at the expense of prior ones. For instance, after the 2nd episode (and one cameo later), that huge creature that ate the plane’s pilot hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Not only that, but immediatly after that creature appeared, the castaways didn’t seem to hesistate at all about running into the jungle.

Speaking of which, although the characters are generally well written, there are far too many moments of pure idiocy that it breaks the suspension of disbelief. For instance, when they’re trying to get the TNT to blow up the hatch, I strongly doubt anyone would attempt to move the sticks of dynamite after a fellow castaway** blows up ** in front of their faces. On that tangent as well, it’s odd how the castaways treat the death of others (not the “others”) with complete imbalance. As I recall, the show has a fairly high toll count throughout the first season, yet few people showed remorse. Howeverm when Hurley’s girlfriend died just a few episodes shortly after her introduction in Season 2, the entire beach falls apart. What?

And on the topic of irrational character behavior, I’m always perplexed by everyone giving the Doctor a hard time after he’s saved most of their lives how many times?

Another element that bothered me consistently is we’re constantly told there are “40+ survivors,” yet we only ever see a dozen, at max. The producers should either have attempted to have slightly more interaction with the larger array of characters (which almost never happens - it’s like they don’t even exist) or they should have narrowed the group down to 20, maximum.

Yet I still watch the show sigh

I think 5 years is a bit too long for “Lost” but I’d take that over 7 years. I still wish Buffy had ended after 5 years. Those last 2 years, with a few exceptions, were trainwrecks.

This is just silly. The idea that Lost will be popular enough for four more years that they would need to plan on ending it then. Ha! If it can make it to a full five seasons I would be shocked.

I read this is another article that said the producers were going to run all of Season 4 episodes back-to-back, like “24” does. I suppose that means no “Lost” in the fall.

This is a bit off-track, but when the hell are they starting Season Three back up again? Some of us are jonesing here!

Seriously. Two seasons, ten seasons; I don’t care, as long as they give me the rest of Season Three!

Wednesday Feb 7 10pm. They are changing the time. Starting then it is straight to the end of the season with no breaks or repeats.
