I have a Great Great Great and a few more Greats Grandfather who served and died during the American Civil War. He served for the state of Michigan and died as a POW. He is now buried in Pennsylvania. I am attempting to find out more on him but my Googling is not working out. All I know is his last name, Lundy, and he was from Marcellus, MI Michigan. Does anyone know how I can find out more about this long lost relative?
Have you tried the LDS genealogy at familysearch.org? If nothing else, it may give you basic information, such as his date of birth/death and first name. It may not, but it’s worth a shot.
Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System
Only 6 Lundy’s from Michigan. Shouldn’t be too hard to find him.
From there you can order his service record through NARA.
Michigan rosters canbe found here. The site also mentions where 2 Lundys are buried. Abram in Michigan and Thomas in Maryland.
Uncle One more thing
Was his child, your ancestor, was born before 1860? If so then it’s quite likely you could find him in the 1860 census. Or if you want I could give it a go. As you might have noticed I love genealogy. I just looked through Marcellus in the 1850 and 1860 census and saw no Lundys. The 3 Lundys you see in the 19th were all living in Penn township but their father was from Virginia. That family moved to Cass county after 1840 after spending a few years in Indiana.
Be sure to watch out for Lunday and other spellings.
