Lost - How'd they do that (no spoilers)

On the new reality show Lost, contestants are dropped off in some remote location on the other side of the world. The teams then race back to the Statue of Liberty. Their first task was to figure out what country they were in. What I was wondering is how did the producers manage to get the contestants out of the US and into another country without them knowing where they were going? Wouldn’t they need visas, or at least need to go through customs? I don’t think the show would illegally smuggle them into another country. Is the show fake, and the contestants just actors?

I’d imagine that any problems with entry visas and the like can be solved with the application of “yankee dollars” in the right places.

A more interesting question, to me at least, is do these folks have passports with them? A lot of countries stamp the visas in the passport. Perhaps each team’s cameraman carries their documents.

Their first task was to figure out what country they were in. If they thought they knew the answer, they were to call the producers (on a provided satellite phone) and tell them their guess. If they were correct, the team was allowed to open a locked box they were carrying with them which contained their papers and some cash.

I saw the part where they called the producers with the country information, but I missed the part about the box with their papers. Thanks for the clarification.

I had guessed Nepal or someplace like that based on the locals appearance.
