Lost

Its coming back I can’t wait!

Well, don’t keep me in suspense. When?

Two weeks.

All I can say is that this is the last chance with me for Lost. They damn well better start moving the story forward and quit making the characters continue to do stupid stuff or I’m gonna chuck in the towel.

Well, I’ve already decided that I’m done.

I heard that they were moving it to 10:00 pm, anyway. Seeings as how that’s my bedtime, that pretty much settles it.

Cool. Can’t wait. My Wednesday nights just aren’t the same without it.

Oh, no. Just read in Trunk’s post that they’re moving it to 10 (9 my time). That means it’s going to compete with Medium. That sucks.

After how many episodes will the towel throwing commence, Rojelio? Two episodes? Three? Are you gonna be like Trunk, who already threw in his, but still loves coming to every Lost thread to remind us how much the show sucks … ?

No no no.

I threw it in after the last episode of the first half. Perfectly justified in declarations of suckitude given how much of my free time I’d given over to the show over the previous two years.

If I turn up in any episodes this second half, call me out all you want.

No, I’ll wait till the end of the season. I’ve watched and poured over every episode so far. I really really want to like Lost like I did when it first started. It’s just that I’m starting to feel a little like the writers are, for want of a better word, lost. If they they can tighten things back up I’ll hang onto my towel a little longer. But rest assured, if Jack blindly walks into yet one more obvious trap, I’ll be back here to threaten the towel again.

Well I for one have actually beedn enjoying this season. I really like the psychological edge the show has taken. I’m still a fan.

And it works out perfectly. The Top Chef finally is next week so I won’t have anything to compete against Lost.

I don’t have to know anything about the rest of the season to know that Jack & Co. aren’t about to stop falling into traps and making seemingly silly decisions in general. The formula of the show is not knowing the answers, and believe it or not, there are people who think leaving a lot to the imagination is fun. Why people get so mad over a series whose nature is to constantly string you along is beyond me … it’s like getting mad at a jigsaw puzzle for being in so many pieces.

It’s like starting a jigsaw puzzle with 500 pieces, and then someone coming along and dumping another 500 pieces onto the table while removing half of the pieces you started the first jigsaw puzzle with.

I’m still enjoying it. The only thing I haven’t liked is that Jack didn’t demand any answers in exchange for his cooperation (“OK, I remove the tumor for you, tell me - why did you kidnap Walt and Claire and Alex Rousseau, etc. etc.”)

But I find the show is still suspenseful, and the protagonists are generally sympathetic and frequently surprise me.

I like the acting, the company of actors; the backstories for the characters…so what if it’s frustrating as heck. I still enjoy it and am eagerly awaiting the return.

I think it’s funny that Trunk assigns an arbitrary number of pieces to my jigsaw analogy, defeating the point of the analogy altogether. I’m also curious which pieces are the ones he insists have been removed thus far, but more to the point, what’s the number of pieces got to do with the jigsaw analogy anyway? If anything, it’s a puzzle whose edge pieces have yet to form a frame for the remaining pieces to come together, so we still don’t know how many pieces will be in it to begin with.

Thanks for missing the point of the analogy though, Trunk. Clearly, some folks can’t stand being strung along, while others think it’s a cool concept. The plot isn’t spoonfed to the audience for cut-and-dry interpretation. We enjoy the unfolding mystery and the seemingly stupid decisions the characters make because it generates interesting, open-ended discussion … at least when the show’s critics aren’t popping in to share their disapproval with the pace of the show, that is.

I haven’t given up yet. I’m starting to get a little frustrated at the pace of the story, but I’m still very into the characters, and I can’t stop watching just yet.

While I’m not giving up on the show, I’m very close to giving up on the Lost threads here on the boards. When every third comment is about how much the show stinks and how someone is never going to watch it again, it’s just not as much fun to read and participate in.

How about someone starts a “Why This Episode of Lost Sucked” thread each week to accompany the Lost discussion thread, so we can enjoy our crazy theories in peace?

That idea sucks.

Your analogy only works if the puzzle makers actually started with a complete puzzle, and then chopped into into pieces that need to be put back together to form the complete picture.

I’ve given up all hope that that is the case.

They keep dumping shitloads of other pieces onto the table without completing the first one, and they will continue to do so as long as the ad revenue pours in. And I chose the term “shitload” carefully.

Don’t try to act like the writers are some master craftsmen with an elegant plan for the black smoke, the tree eating monster, the magical polar bear. That show has turned into a mess. Enjoy the mess all you want. Just don’t call it order.

Trunk loves playing semantics, which explains why he hates the show. I said that, as a puzzle, the show has yet to form a frame around which the various pieces can start to come together, which also means we don’t know how many pieces are in the puzzle. You say we didn’t even start with a complete puzzle. What show does start with a complete puzzle, if you don’t mind my asking?

You also still haven’t shared which pieces have been “removed”, and this part I’d love to hear since you’re obviously in the know about which parts of the show won’t ever be revisited in the future … though I’m sure my asking again is simply begging for you to butcher my analogy some more by suggesting the writers spilled coffee on the puzzle while they were looking at the box for some hints on how to put it together. Maybe the dog came by and jumped on the table too?

That’s a good idea. Whomever starts up the regular Lost thread each week should also start a “whining about Lost” thread and link to it in the OP. Then those who are just chiming in to say the show sucks and they’re not going to watch anymore (Another message board I visit calls this “threadcrapping” and it is generally frowned upon.) can share their misery with each other and not bog things down for us fans.

Oh, and we should keep a running list of Posters Who Have Officially Given Up On Lost and include it in the OP. Just cut and paste the list from the previous week’s thread and add any new quitters.

Cause seriously–all the bitching and melodramatic statements about “that was the last episode I’m going to watch!” are getting really, really old.
