No - the Lotus turned fast and too tightly to get a radar lock. I remember when that show originally aired: they talked with the pilot afterwards, who explained that while the contest was fun, it wasn’t really a fair test. IRL, he’d just hover and strafe up the track with cannon, and the Lotus would be small scraps of aluminium foil.
I’ve seen an Ariel Atom buzzing around the roads here: those things are cool. Fast, too.
I watched the show when it aired. What they did was have a codicil at the end: “Of course, here’s what would really happen.” Then they showed the helicopter at one end and a car at the other, showed the helicopter acquiring lock on the car, and then the car blew up. I don’t recall if they actually fired a missile or if it was faked; I rather suspect the latter.
