Loud 'bang' last night - any ideas?

Are you sure it wasn’t closer to morning? Might have been the crack of dawn.

Yep.

The crack of dawn… snerk Good one!

Well, they heard a Bang not banging.

Let us not embarrass Doctor J by inquiring further about this, okay?

A couple of months after I moved into my house I was woken up by a loud noise. It didn’t repeat, so I went back to bed. The next day I read in the news that a house about 1.5 miles from me had blown up (gas leak).

Icequake? Bird hitting the window? Thermal crepitation? Cat knocking stuff over in the kitchen? Raccoon in the attic?

(We had a bird hit our window during supper tonight…)

Has the OP looked for bits of a small animal strewn about?

Pop Goes the Weasel”

This. I’m already hearing them in my neighborhood.

Big finish.

I don’t get embarrassed, I’m a carrier.

I was living about 20 miles away from this blast, and it woke me up.

I was 15 miles from this one. Scared the hell out of me!

You were, were you?

Has anyone considered that it might have been a Wendigo?

We had one in the woods behind the house last winter. Caused a horrible racket.

I was about 5 miles away from this one. Shattered windows and everything.
Needless to say, I awoke with a start. That was a weird week.

(Yeah, my explosion was bigger than yours…)

Shouldn’t you be seeing a doctor about that?

(Wendigo)

Mine, too. When those things blow, they make a scary big bang!

Probably caused by a Wendigo.
Perhaps three or four of them.

It was a caffeinated chipmunk hitting the window.
