I think there’s truth in what she says. Some guys look at a girl - especially a prospective gf and not just a hookup - and consider factors other than sheer physical attraction. “What would other people think of us” is one of them and it weighs more heavily (pardon the pun) for some than others.
No it is not, i don’t see why “hot enough to fuck” has to equal “hot enough to date”. At least for me there is a very vast chasm between those two categories.
Burstyn’s name was in the credits; it’s easy to miss names there because the Louie credits are smallish, down in the bottom left part of the screen–and L.C.K. fills the rest of the screen with things we want to look at. Sneaky.
I agree with you about the disturbing nature of the storyline with the younger daughter. But of course L.C.K. may simply drop this element and never refer to it again (it’s been known to happen!)
All I know is continuity is something Louis CK observes only as it suits him. FWIW, I think the events of “Model” are real, and that they’ll never be referred to again.

It was an invented story he told the waitress to explain his broken nose and to pick her up.
I guess that’s possible but I don’t remember anything in the episode that requires any thing other than a straightforward reading of what happened.
Did anyone else notice that the selectively bleeped the word “fuck”? When the girl used it mid conversation in the first episode, it was not bleeped. But, when Louie yelled it on the subway in the second episode, it was bleeped. Must be related to “intent” or something?
Thank you.
I decided to check IMDB again, and her role on Louie has subsequently been added.
The happy smile on his face when he finishes telling the story to the girl who was not interested in him at all at the beginning who was now totally into him.
I just thought that the story had a ethereal, dream like quality to it that made it seem like a fantasy (I’m behind on episodes, so I haven’t seen the latest). At best, I think Louie can be viewed as an unreliable narrator.
The happy smile tells me he’s happy that she’s now into him. I don’t see how the smile says anything about whether the other things in the show actually happened or not.
In fact, quite the opposite, the look on his face seemed a little surprised as well. That wouldn’t indicate to me that he’d had a plan going in to telling the story.
I mean it could be he told the story just to mess around, then was surprised at the effect it had, but isn’t the simplest reading just that the things happened, he recounted them, got an unexpected positive response, and was happy and a little surprised at that result?
What makes someone hot enough to fuck but not date?
“Crazy” would do it.
Not just crazy, but also not interested in the same things that would have to be dealt with over the length of dating: politics, animal ownership, different values of any sort that would make repeated encounters and any length of time not horizontal unpleasant to deal with.
And not just that but the simple fact is that there are different standards for a life partner than for someone who just fulfills a need. There is no reason at all that the standards for one should be the same as for the other.
For me, the bar is much lower for the former than the latter.
Also, I agree that Louie is just spinning a yarn to impress the waitress with respect to the seinfeld-model fiasco.
Note everyone is mentioning a different type of personality, which is not Louie’s problem with Vanessa. They get along amazingly well.
This means Louie isn’t deterred by Vanessa’s personality, and doesn’t mind having sex with fat girls. What else is left? Their long term goals don’t match? That never became an issue on their date. I think the show made it pretty obvious why Louie turned down Vanessa without explicitly having Louie confirm it.
I was answering the question from my perspective - I mean, I am dating a fat girl :p.
Can’t speak for Louie’s character. Where he’s concerned it seems Vanessa’s analysis was spot on : he is/was insecure about being seen with a fattie and/or scared of “dating down” as Louis CK put it in one of his stand-ups.
I do wonder whether he ultimately took her hand because she awkwarded him into it and it was easier than to keep listening to her pain, or because he really got over his weak shit.
I noticed that. Louis has said that he has an agreement with Fox that he can do anything he wants on the show but he will bleep out “fuck” (and, presumably, any variations), “motherfucker”, and “cunt”. My guess is that he asked for and received permission to have this one line not be bleeped because it was so important to the story. Nothing else would have worked in its place.
Interesting! Thanks!
