Louie Season 4

Loved it too. It was one of the most heart-warming scenes I’ve seen in a long while. And Louie seamlessly going from awestruck by the poignant poetry of it to “All right then, homework now.” was a laugh-like-a-loon moment for me.

I thought I’d post this here: anyone who’s a fan of Louis CK should check out his episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, Louis takes Jerry Seinfeld out in his boat. Real life Louis is a lot more successful and well adjusted than TV Louie.

The show seems to cover ever argument against a relationship between Louie and Vanessa because they show Louie hitting on several other waitresses throughout the show (and one in the same episode I think.)

Louie in the show is a good comedian, but not a successful one. He can’t afford private school for his daughter, but his ex-wife can. In another episode where he tried to buy a house, his accountant told him he couldn’t because he only had like $600 in his bank account.

His success on the show is weird and hard to define. The fact that he even thought he could buy a house in NYC (or has an accountant!) says something, I think. He bought a motorcycle, right off the show room floor for cash in one ep. He also has a nice car (at least I think I seem to recall that he does). He was up for the Late Show (right?). I can’t imagine any one who is not at least semi-famous/successful would be up for that. He’s friends with Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock on the show as well (I think). And didn’t he buy a boat, or was that in real life?

I’d argue that there is a difference between hitting on (or flirting with) someone and dating them as well.

He has a boat in real life, a really big one. On the show, the head of CBS guesses that he makes about $90k a year with his act and Louie doesn’t correct him. But yeah, he drives an Infinity on the show (and in real life), so they’re not very consistent with his finances.

I’ve been meaning to check out this series, but haven’t yet. Do they make fun of how much of a dick Jerry has been to Louie on the show?

No, I think it was recorded before Jerry’s appearances. Mostly, they just goof around and talk about comedy. The series is really uneven, but they’re only 20 minutes long. Louis tells this really long and funny story about taking his kids out on the boat.

I like the Louis CK episode and the Tina Fey episodes which are linked in an odd way (watch the Louis one first).

That’s a reasonable guess for the hurricane bits.

The bizarre stuff does seem to be coming along with great frequency: the newscasts, the scream out the window, and the Different Actors playing Louis and his (now) ex-wife–the characters would have been what, a dozen years younger than they are now? The choice to use different actors just seemed like another rather gratuitous chance to do something weird.

I’m going to keep watching this show. It’s smart and often funny. But the weird stuff may not be as appealing to audiences as C.K. apparently thinks it is.

That’s a great point.

Their personalities are perfect for each other. Status is just like looks: Louie (correctly) thinks he can do better, but it is unlikely he’ll find a better match in terms of personality.

The different actresses playing his wife has been an ongoing (albeit unsaid) gag.

The “weird stuff” is excellent, IMO, and gets across what he’s trying to say quite effectively. Consider the first episode of the season when the garbagemen smash into his room.

As for the news stories, I took it as a commentary about how the news is unspeakably horrible; the world is so hostile and unforgiving as to crush your soul if you focus too much on it.

My favorite bit was on the crawl: “Find out what celebs put in their go-bags.” Hehheh.

Well, yeah. That was great. (And he writes all of that…!)

This is a fundamental flaw in her reasoning. Guys don’t need to be attracted to someone in order to have sex with them. Being attracted to someone you hook up with is a nice perk, not a requirement.

I don’t get that. I would never have sex with someone I didn’t find attractive. I mean so people really do that?

Yes.

How does this work? Are you talking about using mind altering drugs and/or bags over unappealing body parts?

If it’s only for a couple of hours, as long as they’re not physically repulsive, then it’s really no big deal. But some (not too much) alcohol can help.

As for the different actors playing young Louis and Janet, I liked that. The AV Club reviewer for this episode came up with a justification that I agree with after the fact - that Louis hasn’t changed much since that time, but Janet has grown and changed over the years.

Really? They barely know each other and I don’t think Louie was really even being ‘himself’ around her. This again sounds just like the arguments the ‘nice guy’ would use, I mean, if the girl/woman would just ‘open her eyes’ and realize the ‘nice guy’ was perfect for her, she would instantly fall in love and they would live happily ever after.

It also has a theatrical feel to it. On stage, men can play women, black people can play white people, adults can play children, and vice versa, and the audience just goes along with it. For some reason, mainstream movies and television audiences can’t deal with that.

Ok, still like the show but it’s starting to try our patience these last few episodes. If you don’t want to do a proper serialized story that’s fine, but if you are going to do one then at least have more than one minute or two of progress per episode. The last one with Todd Barry’s 10min long story about nothing got old real quick.

It all just getting to be so random that it’s distracting and not always in a good way.

It’s there to show how pathetic Louie’s life could turn out if he doesn’t find love. It’s random plot wise, but it’s on point thematically.

I didn’t understand the crowd’s reactions to Todd Barry’s story. Were they being sarcastic in their enthusiasm? Or were they genuinely enjoying his little victories in the midst of mediocrity?
