Louis Vuitton MALLETIER?

What does “Malletier” in the name “Louis Vuitton Malletier” mean? Is it part of Louis Vuitton’s name? Does it mean “company” or something?

No. It means “suitcase-maker”.

Yeah, but there’s a lot of psychological baggage that comes with that. :rolleyes:

Thank you.

Can anyone think of an English word for a person who makes suitcases, trunks, baggage, luggage, etc?

Malletier refers to someone endorsed by Danish royalty for their superb design and manufacture process of mallets. Espcieally rolled-leather mallets used in the primal sport of Danish mallet fencing.

I’m trying to get a serious question answered here for a serious purpose. If you’re joking, I wish you’d give a clear signal of that.

Trunk-maker. (A boring answer, but there you go.)

That’ll do I suppose. I was hoping there was some mediaeval-era terminology, like fletcher for arrow-maker or fuller for felt-maker.

::Sigh::

Or like malletier for trunkmaker?

feh… en garde! Ah haff mah dueling mallett readee to straike yeu!

** CLOCKE ** :smack:

A thousand pardonnes. I failed to note that “Trunk-maker” had already been offered. Perhaps someone with an Oxford English Dictionary might be able to provide the history of the word, at least such as it has existed in English. Is there a French equivalent of the OED?
