Loup-Garou

I find the Loup-Garou legends to be one of the least internet tainted stories still out there to read. They also are not really like the shape changer stories flooding the internet. Loup-Garou is more than werewolfs, it’s has many forms. My favorite is the person stuck transforming into a cow. Honey I just missed being killed by the werecow. Moooooooo!!!

The Loup-Garou is a French beastie, and came here with the fur traders that settled America. I thought I should post this link I found a few years ago since Halloween is so close.

Anybody out there with any other really good links or creatures out there? Post a link if you think the subject hasn’t been beaten to death in the last few years

Descendents of the (so-called) mythic beast, the Yeti walk among us.

Cite? I’ve only seen the werewolf versions of the Loup-garou legend.

The link in my post has the cow and other legends

Ah, oui, le vache-garou. Très dangereux.

Any other legends out there you consider fresh or unique?

Well, I’ve always been fond of the Kraken…and, more recently, the Draug.

Thanks for the links.

Anybody ever see a myth or legend with the river horse. They were supposed to be intellegent and speak with people. I know Egypt was one of the countries that had myths about it, but I haven’t seen an actual story.

I second what Kythereia said. Nonetheless, I own a copy of “Faeries” by Froud and Lee. On page-

Hey, where the hell are the page numbers? anyway, the entry is as follows, partially

It was accompanied by two pictures, one picture of the kelpie emerging from the water, with only it’s mouth and nostrils visible. However, it seemed to have eyes where it’s nose-holes should be!

Oh! You might also try looking through Spirits, Fairies, Leprechauns, and Goblins: An Encyclopedia, which has all manner of odd supernatural creatures and species’ from all over the world.

Another one I’m just remembering (and which I think is in the above book): The “Scorpion Men” from Babylonian mythology. Kinda like centaurs, only with “giant scorpion” instead of “horse” parts.
