Low Cost Unlimited Cell Phone Plan in NYC?

What is the lowest cost unlimited cell phone plan one could get in NY? Also im talking about those that use with flip phones and thus not a smart phone so no internet/web etc.

Anyone?

Cheap Phone Plans

FreedomPop looks interesting…

If you have a Verizon phone, I would suggest PagePlus. $40/mo for unlimited Talk/Text (or $30 if 1200 minutes and 3000 text messages will suffice for you) and the use of Verizon’s great coverage. Go through Kitty Wireless to get a nice discount off your first month of service. My wife and I personally use PagePlus with our (just out of contract) RAZR MAXX and iPhone 4s. We use the $55 plan which include unlimited talk/text and 2.5GB of 3G data.

The answer to your question depends largely on the provider your phone was originally intended for use with. Go on Google and search for “Best (your original carrier) MVNO”. Big names are PagePlus, Straight Talk, Ting, Republic Wireless (must buy their device), and Virgin Mobile.

If you want further advice, please post what make/model of phone you have and the original carrier.

Hi. I dont mind the phone, i prefer it to be one of those flip phones could be any brand etc. I want to know the lowest cost per month for calling and want it to be unlimited and not the pay per minute plans…
Thus i would not need internet/web etc for it. I wouldnt even need texting.

Do you have AT&T Wireless available in your area?

I have a AT&T GoPhone plan (in California). It’s a prepaid plan, so for a fixed amount of money, paid in advance, you get a fixed number of minutes, and they last for a fixed number of days and then expire. If you re-up before they expire, then the unused minutes roll over. You can call nationwide for $0.10 per minute.

I get the $25 for 3 months plan. That presumably gets me 250 minutes. For my purposes, that is massively plenty. Depending on your usage plans for this phone, maybe that’s a good deal or maybe not. It works for me.

ETA: Of course, when you sign up for the first time, you also have to buy the phone, if you don’t already have one they support.

Hey yes i heard of those plans. But these are pay per minute ones right? Isn’t there a phone plan where you get unlimited cell phone minutes but zero text and zero internet etc? I want like a dumbphone/flip phone with unlimited or lot of monthly minutes and curious what the price would be for that.

I have a Wal Mart Straight Talk phone. No roaming charges, it’s nationwide. I even used it in Puerto Rico. It’s $30/month for 1000 minutes + 1000 text and about 30 hours of internet, or it’s $45 a month for unlimited everything.

And it’s a El-cheapo fip phone.

Works great everywhere in the USA!

So you don’t have a phone yet? Honestly, after reading about FreedomPop, you probably won’t get cheaper than $11 bucks a month for unlimited talk and text.

Do you really need UNLIMITED minutes? Or would 500 minutes do you fine? I understand you don’t want to pay “per-minute” charges, but oftentimes you can pay less than the unlimited plans for 500-1000-2000 minute plans.

A pay-per-minute plan might be a good deal, depending on your needs.

The plan I described above costs me $25 once every three months, or a bit over $8 per month. Each $25 payment gets me 250 minutes (at ten cents a minute), and I don’t use nearly that much. Unused minutes roll over as long as I re-up on time, so I’ve accumulated many hours’ worth of pre-paid time – which I’ll probably never use.

I keep this phone primarily to carry with me on the road, to be used as needed for emergency purposes. (There have been a couple times in the past where this would have been helpful.) So for me, it’s basically an $8/month emergency-call insurance plan. I rarely use it otherwise.

ETA: Contrast my regular land-line phone (also AT&T), which costs me about $33 every month for unlimited nationwide calling (not including DSL, which is another $30-something per month).
