Ok, I know there’s gotta be others out there who’ve been lucid dreaming for years and HATE IT!! Is there a way to stop it? why can’t i just have a simple 3-minute dream, like most folks, where i DON’T realize i’m actually dreaming in my dream! I DONT want to change things in my dream, control anything, i just want to sleep without dreaming, just once, for at least 8 hrs!!! Any suggestions???
If you’re not enjoying them you’re probably not achieving high level lucidity. Instead of trying to stop this from happening, I’d say you’re better off looking into lucid dreaming strengthening techniques so that you can be more productive in this state.
You write your post as though having a lucid dream detracts from your ability to rest. A proper lucid dream should leave you feeling just as rested as if it didn’t happen.
Do you have lucid dreams? Do you have them every single night? I do, and 7 years ago I learned to empower myself in my dreams, if that’s what you meant by “stregthening techniques,” but also within these dreams alot of activity can occur leaving you exhausted, really physically exhausted… i.e, I’ve run marathons in dreams before, I feel the sweat, smell the sweat, feel the adrenaline, feel the wind, hear the panting of other runners, including my own, and feel the pounding from the pavement to the top of my scalp… when I start to slow down, I make a decision to accelerate, sometimes I decide to actually jump over the runner’s head infront of me and I do it! So what? I dont understand WHY some people actually think lucid dreaming is a good thing, maybe i’m the odd one out, but truly just want to experience nothingness for one night… and let’s not even talk about out-of-body experiences!
I noticed that I could get into a lucid dream by training myself to be looking out for inconsistencies and immediately draw the conclusion that I am dreaming. I got quite good at this, so that I could get into lucid dreams most of the time - although bear in mind, the dreams you remember are typically only small parts of the last dreamcycle. Each 1.5 hours of sleep you have about 15-30 mins of REM sleep during which you dream, and you can have more than one dream per cycle (4-5 being common, if I remember correctly). The last cycle is usually the one you remember, so unless you wake up during each REM cycle, you’re not very likely to remember the others, and you may not have lucid dreams in them.
Anyway, I did notice that I didn’t nearly feel as rested when I woke up from a lucid dream, and after a while (and having had some - mostly sexual - fun in them) I simply stopped trying and haven’t gone back, although I still sometimes ‘break in’. I have no experience with lucidity being ‘forced upon me’, but what I would try is quite simply refuse to make any active effort on trying anything. Just become completely apathic in your dream and perhaps the dream will take over again.
Funny enough, I had a lucid dream-within-a-dream last night. I was dreaming that I was having a hard time falling asleep, then finally did, and it was a lucid dream. I ‘woke’ from the lucid dream and dreamed that I wanted to go back into the lucid dream and dream about sex. That sorta worked for a few minutes, then I ‘woke’ again into my first dream, only to be woken up by my alarm a few minutes later.
