Actually, anytime I’m playing blackjack and I’m dealt a 16 (which only happens about 1,000 times/weekend) and hit it and don’t bust, I feel insanely lucky.
My best experience was in Vegas, I was there in 96 for a week with a bunch of friends. We were supposed to be there for COMDEX, needless to say we didn’t spend too much time on the convention floor!
Anyway I was playing roulette at the “Excaliber”. I was playing $0.50 chips (I’m not really a high-roller), I was up about $20 or $30 and decided to take a risk. I played $5 on black 13. Anyway it hits! $175! Sweet! So I take my money and leave the $5 there, and it hits again! Another $175!
I was so excited I spilt my Canadian Club and coke all over the table! I was crapping my pants I thought I would be shown the door with my head (I had just watched “Casino” before going there). But the pit boss came over and said “Don’t worry sir this happens all the time!”. I got another free drink and played for another half hour and left.
Pretty sweet!

I got sick as a dog on our honeymoon in Las Vegas. My wife spent time with me in our room, but would go and gamble when I was sleeping. She kept getting sympathy comps - the dealer or pit boss would find out that I was sick in the room on our honeymoon, and we’d get free dinner or a night free in the room. We wound up having most of our room and food comped.
Anyway, toward the end of the trip, she was playing in a slot tournament. I was sick, but really wanted to get out of the room, so I came out and sat at a bank of slots about 50 feet away from the tourney. I was losing at the Wheel of Fortune, and getting a lot of free OJ from the cocktail waitresses. I was getting sicker and sicker, started sort of shivering. I started to walk around a bit, and stopped at a $.25 ELVIS machine, mainly to rest, not to play. I put in a twenty, eventually, though. On the first pull, I won $1750! About 2 hours later, on a $1.00 Double Diamond slot, I won $1000. I felt a little better after those wins.

About a week ago some friends and I gathered for a poker game…somewhere pretty late into the evening we had changed the game to Guts. I’ll outline the rules for anyone who’s not familier:
All the players ante. Each player is dealt two cards, face down. The players may look at their cards and then everyone holds their cards in the center of the board…on the count of three, anyone who wants to fold may drop their cards and fold out of the hand. If you keep your hand and lose, you must pay into the pot the amount that is already in it. IE, if everyone anted 10 cents, the losers each must pay in 40 cents…the winner takes the 40 cents that were originally in the pot…this continues until something happens…don’t recall offhand…anyway, as you can see a pair is the best hand you can have in this game.
I was dealt a pair of 5s, the guy across from me a pair of 7s, and the guy to my left got a pair of Kings…that was luck.
A buddy of mine was big into dog racing. I had never been, but went with him one Saturday afternoon, just to have something to do.
After watching a few races, I decided to try my luck. I bet a straight $2 trifecta. The scientific method I used to pick my three dogs was that one’s name was similar to my son’s name, and two others carried names of my two nephews.
The damn thing hit, and paid $1650 after they held taxes out. What a high!
I didn’t bet again. I took the money home and paid off an air conditioner and freezer that we had financed.
