lumen/candlepower conversion formula

So I’m looking at getting a new rechargeable flashlight for my job and I’m looking at getting something relatively small as I’ll have to carry it around for a four hour shift.

Basically, I want the brightest sonofabitch I can get and the website I was looking at seemed to freely switch from lumens to candlepower. It’s kind of annoying when you go from 110 lumens to 15,000 candlepower. Seems like marketing speak to make one sound better than the other.

So, what is the formula to convert lumens to candlepower and vice versa?

See this page for lots of info on this subject. The long answer is you can’t convert directly. The best short answer is 1 candela (a way of expressing candlepower) = 12.57 lumens.
