Every now and then, even on these boards, I see someone say that he or she “lurrrrves” (loves) something. “Lurrrrves”? Where in hell does that come from?
I always reckon it’s somebody trying to sound like Barry White.
From a similar place to that where “the L word” comes from.
Love loveity love love love. McLove.
So there!
~shakes fist~
It’s a line from Annie Hall, the Woody Allen movie.
I’m willing to bet that’s news to most of the people who use it:)
It seems to have a more cheeky, sexy, sound to it.
Yeah, I know - and being able to identify that quote made me feel really old.
I thought I remembered it from Woody’s Love And Death. It went something like, “Love is not a strong enough word. I luff her. I loave her. I lurve her.”
So, that was in Annie Hall? It’s been a long time since I’ve seen either of those movies.
Annie Hall, not Love and Death.
Here’s the quote:
And our UK Dopers may wish to back me up that Cilla Black’s got a lorra, lorra lurve?
Whenever I say lurve it’s a play on the accent like Celine Dion displays when she sings about Lurve. There’s one song where it’s particularly strong, but I can’t think of it at the moment.
