Lying adult webmasters (rant about porn sites in general)

If you are an adult webmaster (I’m sure at least one of you is), pay careful attention to this post. I am going to outline the things that I absolutely despise in porn sites.

Firstly, LOSE THE DAMN POPUPS. There is nothing worse than going to a site that gives you several popups in a row. One site threw so many popups at me, my browser crashed. The worst popups are the ones that refuse to let you close them until they are completely loaded. I’ve downloaded software that eliminates popups, so I won’t have to see them. Don’t even get me started on the popups that come when you LEAVE a site. Grrrrr…

Secondly, NO LYING. I am sick and tired of clicking on links that advertise a gallery of pix, only to give me ads. If a thumbnail is going to take me to anything other than a larger version of that same image, be upfront about it. Same story with text links–make it clear that whatever ad the surfer is going to click on is in fact an ad and not content.

Thirdly, NO WILDLY FLASHING BANNERS. Those are annoying, unprofessional, and they detract from your page’s quality. I’ve actually stopped visiting several porn sites because of their flashing banners.

Fourthly, NO SPAMMING. I don’t need to explain this one, do I?

Finally, for those of you with pay sites. Yours had better be DAMN better than the freebies. Remember, you have to compete with Usenet, Gnutella (it’s not just for music, Lars) and 64.9 katrillion FTPs all over the world–almost all of which are FREE. That’s right, FREE and with NO ADS. If I’m shelling out $10/month or whatever, you had damn well better give me high quality pictures, long .mpegs (at least 25MB each), and lots of 'em. Keep the ads to a minimum, and if you’re charging more than $15.00 a month, there better not be any ads at all.

Look, I know you want to make money. That’s understandable. However, your best bet is word of mouth. If you have a good, easy to use site, people will get the word out about you. I’ve passed on the word about a few porn sites that I really enjoy. But if you have bullshit, this poster is one person who won’t be back to your site.

Ummm… Father? I invite you to click on my web link…and enjoy!

stoid

By the way, the link goes directly to the caption contest, but you are more than clever enough to navigate around the rest of the site. No worries…no popups, no ads, no nuthin.

stoid

Guess you are going to the wrong porn sites…I have a friend that must have 100 porn sites, all pretty much normal. No pop-ups, no spamming etc…

Since I can’t post the links here, email me if you want fun without the pain.

Oh and he drives around in his Vette or his Hummer. He’s mainly a front man for the main porn sites.

To the OP: Hell yeah! I hate those popups. The ones I hate most are the ones you close and 10 seconds later, they’re popping right again! Yeah, that’s gonna make me click on it.

Stoid, that is a cool site!

DO tell?

See, I frequent a lot of errr… motorbike and fishing gear websites with these goddamn pop-ups. And they annoy me to no end.

You go to look at porn but you don’t want anything to “pop up”? Am I missing something? I thought that was the whole point!

Coldfire-

I don’t know what the proud Father uses to screen the pop-ups he runs into at titties.com, but I use webwasher. It’s a terrific little freeware app that runs in the background and screens all kinds of webmaster horseshit.

Among other things, it can put the nix on ads; disable both popups and browser size/shape modifications; web animations; scripts; WebBugs- a hole slew of things.

It has a friendly user interface that lets you decide what you want to see, or not see. You want to see ads? Well, enable ads. You want referrers? Go ahead, enable 'em.

I don’t like any of that crap, so I disable all but the basics. I can’t tell you how much it’s added to my surfing enjoyment. I breeze past shit that sends others over the edge.

It’s an easy app to install and use, and they upgrade it often.

Like I said earlier, it’s free and comes ‘no strings attached’. Give it a try, you wont go back.

I use POW! by AnalogX [ http://www.analogx.com ]. Everytime you get a pop-up, you click to add it to the ‘kill list’ and it automatically closes any further occurences of that window.

Manually adding the pop-ups doesn’t take as long as you’d think, and it’s quite handy. A lot of the pop-up killers work by looking for text strings in the title bar of the window, so you don’t necessarily want them to be killing every single screen that says “Enter here!” in case you lose the legit ones.

I have to echo arden here, Stoid, and say that’s one of the coolest sites I’ve ever been to.

Kudos!

Gracias, Chris and Matt. I’ll give these apps a go.

** jarbabyj ** and ** Arden Ranger ** <bows> thank you. Thank you very much. I’m pretty proud.

I use Netcaptor, the IE-based browser. It has so many useful tools, including pop-up suppression, multi-window surfing w/o reopening the program, and one-click security menu tab, that I don’t powersurf without it.

Oh to prevent popups in the future, uncheck Javascript in your browser.

Webwasher is really good at stopping pop-ups, too and it’s free.
There’s enough free, high-quality porn on Usenet to choke a thousand chickens.

So, tell me… how do you find porno via FTP?

Just for, uh, research purposes of course… yeah…

Has anybody ever whipped out their credit card and subscribed to a site because the pop-up windows wouldn’t let them leave? Has that ever worked anywhere, even once? What kind of a fucking idiot would do business with people like that?

Yeah, sometimes you find so-called “free” sites on which every link leads to a different site, usually pay.

Cluttered, amateurish page design, and especially poor spelling and grammar. When I see that, I feel like I don’t belong there, that the site is intended for morons.

Adultcheck is such a scam. You pay like 29.95 to be able to access what they say is thousands of adults sites. In reality you can access the front page of those sites and MAYBE one or two other pages before it asks you to pay for more. I had considered upgrading to adultcheck gold but why run the risk that it’s the same thing?
Porn is so damn sketchy.

Actually, AC isn’t all that bad. I have an AC ID myself (regular, not Gold) and it works pretty well.

AC should be viewed as the cyber equivalent of the bouncer at the nightclub “carding” you. Pain in the arse, but necessary.

I’ve a few good AC Regular protected sites here. Drop me an email at libertas@goldmail.ru if you want 'em. If you’re a minor, email me on your 18th birthday.
