I kinda wanted Tawana Brawley II take the stand, just to expose her for lying. Now the charges may get dropped, and she can still insist it happened, like Tawana Brawley I has.
I was appalled when I figured he was continuing the case just to get the black vote in Durham. I figured no way would anyone fall for this ploy, especially since it was plain last year that she lied. Yet Nifong still get re-elected!!
Interesting that Duke faculty wanted to use this “rape” to address issues of racism and sexism. Now that we know Tawana Brawley II made the story up, does Duke still need to address them? Or should NCCU, since their student falsely accused white males of a particulary heinous crime?
What would an apology be worth? I’m happy to hear that “nifong” has become a verb. That sort of counts as society’s acknowlegment that what he did was wrong.
As for reparations, I have nothing against the citizens of Durham, especially the ones who didn’t vote for Nifong. Is it possible to just sue the assholes who did vote for Nifong?
I wonder if we can make “Mangum” a verb, too, since she’s the true criminal in this case. Mix it with Brawley or something.
No, Nifong, as the one in full control of his faculties and fully educated in the Law, is the true criminal. False accusers like Magnum are a dime a dozen. It’s the DA and his staff’s job to sort them out.

Rough guess: No apology is needed nor will be forthcoming because of whatever else Whitey did. Sort of like when Tom Sawyer’s aunt punishes him for spilling the sugar, when it wasn’t him.
This is just my formal apologia (on behalf of me and, you know, everyone in the thread who bashed the OP’s title or felt obligated to start a new, more sanitized thread).
