I’m a songwriter in a lyrical slump, and thought perhaps I could get some ideas from bright doper minds!
I keep my songs abstract, as I’ve found that I can reach more people who will interperet the lyrics from their own perspective. I use as many metaphors as possible to keep the song interesting, and I try to avoid "I"s and "You"s as much as possible.
One idea I’ve considered yet haven’t implemented is inventing a fictional story as my subject . . . this may be a fun avenue for us to explore, especially since my life as a mortgage banker does not lend itself to interesting songs!!
Right now when I sit down, this is the cliche crap that I’m coming up with:
- Sometimes I feel . . .
- I feel lonely because . . .
- I miss her because . . .
I invite you to challange my writer’s block with some fresh ideas.
Please note this is all in good fun . . . I know the board frown upon self promotion as an artist, etc. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I figured Cafe Society would be a good place for people to share, “I always thought a cool song could be about _______.” I in turn will share ideas with any of you that I have . . . I’m absolutely not concerned with copywrite, etc. I’m just a simple songwriter looking for ideas, and thought it might make an interesting thread. Thank you!
