Sorry this is a bit ranty, but LyX brings that out in me. Here’s what I want to do:
So, I want to cross-reference to appendix 1. But if I do the standard “Insert label” thing at Appendix 1, and then “Insert cross-reference” in the main-text… well, the grey box on the screen works out fine. But as LyX is a document processor, and documents are printed on paper (and in particular, masters theses are printed on paper), I don’t give a flying bollock about being able to click on a grey box. I want the damn pdf to say “please see Appendix 1”. Not what it currently says, which is “please see”. Please see what? My arse?
Don’t misunderstand me, I know that LyX is WYSIWY-Mean, not -Get. I don’t mind the grey box being on the screen, I just want to know that on paper it will be converted to the genuinely useful text “Appendix 1”, not nothing at all. Sure I could just type out “Appendix 1” and screw the cross-referencing, but then what the hell is LyX for anyway? And what if I want to muck around with the order of my appendices? Yes, there will be more, lots more.
The stupid thing is I can cross-reference equations. I give them a number and Lyx correctly inserts the number. I can even do citations (though whoever came up with the dumb idea that you would normally want your table of contents to include a list of all your sections except your references list, and that any weirdo-freak-pinko-fascist who did want to include that should download a special package, and insert a line of LaTeX preamble… well this person should be killed very slowly and painfully).
Anyway… deep breath… kittens… any advice?
