Ok, hubby and I relocated to northern MA last year and I have yet to find some decent pizza.
I have always been a big fan of what we called ‘bar pizza’ at places like this.
Unfortunately there isn’t anything like that in our new neighborhood that I have found, and while I love the pizza - driving 2 hours one way and going through boston just for dinner is pretty prohibitive
So what’s your favorite place… I’m looking for a new favorite.
Have you ever tried Bertucci’s? It’s not your typical pizza but it is pretty good. The crust is to die for. There is apparently one in North Andover, which according to Yahoo! is only 7.4 miles from Haverhell, er, Haverhill.
tanookie Mom and Dad used to love Cape Cod Cafe when we lived in MA, and they say that Steve’s Pizza, which is on the Haverhill MA/Plastow NH Line (on 107 in market basket plaza) is exactly like it. I personally can’t give an opinion since I can’t eat pizza, but they seem adament enough about its tastiness to make a trip (about 50miles round trip) down that way a couple of times a year
No question about it, The Riverview (Riverside?)…one of those…in downtown Ipswich. It has exactly what you’re looking for, and is just a quick ride away from Haverhill.
Ah, here it is… Riverview Restaurant, 20 Estes Street (978) 356-0500
Mmmmm…the Cod! I grew up in Brockton, and first experienced the pleasure of chicken pizza there…great stuff.
Unfortunately, tanookie, I live down south of Boston, so I can’t be much help
Yay! I think we’re going to be trying some pizzas in the coming weeks!
Thanks everyone
I grew up in Brockton too, ptr2void. I really wanted to link to Christo’s but they didn’t seem to have a web page. We only moved to Haverhill but there are days when I feel like I’m in another universe.
Heheh…small world! I actually played for the Christo’s Little League team, so I ate plenty of their pizza too! I really miss their Greek salads with meat though most of all. I’m not far from Brockton (Mansfield), but far enough that it’s not practical to go to the East side for a salad.
And Haverhill is practically another universe…it’s almost NH, for Og’s sake
I know several people here that like the pizza at Blue House Pizza, just inside Salem, up 28. I haven’t personally tried it - I like their gyros too much to order their pizza, and besides, I really don’t care much for thin crusts.
The Bertucci’s that Lagomorph refers to is on 114, a little bit SE of I-495. I like Bertucci’s too, but again, I haven’t tried their pizza. (My son likes it, though.)
Polcari’s in Salem (further north on 28 than Blue House) has a “Brick Oven Pizza” that my son also says is good, but we don’t go there very often.
If you are willing to drive a little further afield, in Concord NH visit a place called Foodies in downtown. Where else can you find a Reuban pizza? Amazing stuff.
Well I can personally say that Steve’s is not exactly like the cod but it is the closest thing I’ve found thus far.
I’ve had Bertucci’s before and it is yummy - if they cook it right. Not all the places know how to use a brick oven! I really like getting a big bag of rolls and sauce and making spaghetti at home.
Next time we get pizza I will pick a new place from the thread to try!
