Mac Leopard OS users, your opinions please ...

So, my four-year-old Powerbook is rapidly becoming dysfunctional. The screen has a bad connection, and one of the RAM slots seems to be loose or crapped out in some way. I’ve about got my boss convinced it’s time for me to get a new machine rather than string this one along anymore, but I’m wondering about your experiences with Leopard.

Most specifically, I’m concerned about software. I’m a designer, and use Adobe CS pretty much constantly and several other suites regularly (like Office), but there isn’t enough in the budget for a new machine AND all new software. So I’m wondering, given that all my software was written for PowerPC machines and whatever I get will have the new Intel chips, will I have any problems running the old software on the new computer? Does it work fine, but run slower? Doesn’t work at all?

Any advice is much appreciated, regarding my specific question or any other tidbits you want to throw in. And how are you liking Leopard overall? Thanks.

Leopard is super awesome, but I can’t comment on its compatibility with CS. I use CS3 at work (and I’m on a G5, so… not at all the same). I’d assume CS1 will work fine on Leopard.

What I CAN comment on, however, is that you should wait 2 more weeks. MacWorld is coming, and its expected that all the Mac lines will get some lovin’ after Mr. Jobs big announcement. January 15 is the big day, and I would definitely postpone the purchase until then.

Hmm … any rumors about what might be announced?

There’s always rumors. The big one right at this exact second is an “ultra-portable” 12" (or so) MacBook (or Pro). Maybe a tablet. Maybe a total overhaul of the Mac Pro. Maybe a revamp to the line of MacBook Pros to make them the black/aluminum look, like the new iMac and iPhone.

Whatever it is, SOMETHING will be announced, so if your PowerBook can limp through these next 2 weeks, I’d recommend you limp through.
