This seems like something that should exist, but I can’t seem to find anything. All the web gallery creation tools either have extremely limited customization options, or, if they have lots of flexibility, the one thing they don’t do is create separate HTML pages for each image (which I want for SEO reasons), they offer an insane array of ultra fancy lightbox/flash/javascript stuff which is lousy for search engines.
I’ve tried a bunch and nothing seems to fit. I just want the pages created on my sites template, which is pretty simple, and each picture page to have a previous/next link, and of course a main thumbnail page.
What hasn’t worked so far:
Instant Gallery
MuchoThumbs
Dreamweaver CS4’s Web gallery tool (which really surprises me…)
Bridge
Web Gallery for Mac
Jalbum (Haven’t tried ALL the options, but so far…)
JetPhoto Studio
and a few others I can’t recall right now.
While we’re at it, I’ve been looking for exactly the same thing, except for the PC. “My site’s own template” is the biggie. Plenty create their own templates, but I want something into which I can plug my own header, navigation and footer.
Well since I posted this I’ve been playing around more with Jalbum, and depending on the complexity of your site, it looks like it might work, especially if you can handle dicking with the CSS. And it works in Windows and Linux. The “skins” are extensive and complex, which can be a good or a bad thing, depending on who you are.
I missed this yesterday. I do something like what you mention using jAlbum. I would think that jAlbum should be able to do it for you. jjimm, jAlbum has a desktop application for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux.
Yeah, I’m messing around with the Simplicity skin, an older version, to figure out how to plug in more of my site’s look to the core templates or CSS… In the settings you can plug in headers and footers, the sticky part is the navigation I have on the left. I’m working on it.
