Wait, that was Julia Ormond?!
Man, she is still incredibly attractive!

Nope, no way in hell that was Julia Ormond.
Can’t remember the last time I saw her. Guinevere? Sabrina?
The two actresses are 17 years apart in age, so not a stretch that Ormond is age-appropriate to play Megan’s mother.
Isn’t Megan supposed to; a) have alot of brothers & sisters, and b) be the youngest child? Marie must then be Dr Calvert’s second wife (his first wife having died).
According to wikipedia, FWIW, it is.

I will say that I really liked the brief scene where Pete demonstrates to Megan’s jackass father what he does at work. Pete may be slimy, but he’s not bad at his job.
So, what is the impact of Satan from Reaper telling Don that nobody at the gala would work with him in the future? Is it, as Gangster Octopus suggests, a death sentence for SCDP? I wasn’t totally clear on what went on there.
It seems to me that you are clear on what went on there. Leland Palmer told Don that the bigshots there wouldn’t work with him because of Don’s public condemnation of the tobacco business—they can’t trust him because he bit the hand that fed him. That’s all there is to it for now. Whether it’s a death sentence for the firm is something that we’re all waiting to see. They certainly didn’t say so in this episode.
Julia Ormond is not listed in the cast in IMDB. Actually neither of the Calvets is listed as characters.
I’m pretty sure I saw Julia Ormond’s name in the credits, didn’t I?
Yes, I think so.
Yes, you did. It absolutely was Julia Ormond. And Ken’s father in law is Satan. No wonder he didn’t want to do business with him.
I thought part of it was Megan feeling guilty when Peggy said something like “don’t let them pretend like it’s not a big deal,” but in fact, they were making it a big deal for Megan, just not when Peggy does it.
This episode was brilliant. The ad campaign is about women through the generations, and this ep was about the same thing. Megan trying to get approval from her father, Sally doing the same.
And even though I totally called Joan predicting an engagement, and I totally called it being a request to shack up, it played out perfectly. I should know, I was there.
Everything just worked perfectly together.
Brilliant.
I would like to say, I was Sally’s age in the 60’s, and I’m not at all sure about her outfit for the dinner. It looked more 70’s-ish (I had a silver lame outfit by then) and the white go-go boots? They were too high. (I had the boots and they were not even knee high.)
I wonder if we were supposed to be seeing it through Sally’s eyes, meaning to her it looked that way, though in actuality, Roger and what’s her name very likely were in a secluded spot.
Roger’s character is just stealing the show. He can be such a creep one minute, and the epitome of charm the next. Megan is great, too, but her character is almost too good to be true.
Sally just learned that adulthood can he fun, exciting, glamours and scary as shit.
Well done.
Oh, and am I the only one wanting to know more about LSD now?
By the way, am I the only one who hated the ad campaign. I know it spoke to the client, so in that sense it was good. But, ugh, nothing ever changes, the future (ironically what the client thought he wanted) is identical to the past…beans. and not just beans, mom serving beans. If I saw that commercial I would be depressed beyond belief (ok that’s exaggeration, but I would still hate it).
I agree with Jophiel; Roger probably wouldn’t be any more discrete; what does he care? And Megan’s mom was clearly in the mood to be adventurous.
I didn’t make the connection between the theme of Megan’s ad pitch and that of the episode until John Mace’s post. That’s why I like these threads.
And, Gangster Octopus, I totally agree re: the ad. As the episode was airing, I texted my boyfriend, “Megan’s idea blows.” I thought the episode was headed to a point where Don had to cope with telling Megan that her idea sucked, continuing off what Bert told him earlier.
