Madden 97 with Windows 98

I am about to go nuts trying to find this answer on the web, so I figure it’s time to call out the vast intelligence of the SDMB to try and help.

I am trying to run Madden 97 with Windows 98 however it won’t work. I get an error message that basically says DOS can’t read from the CD-ROM drive. Huh? Has anyone else been able to get around this tricky little snafu? Help!!

Thanks in advance, I rest easy in the knowledge that someone here always knows the answer (no pressure).

Well, shut my mouth. It’s also illegal to put squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling.

Is it a DOS based program? If so, are you loading your DOS based CD-ROM drivers in your autoexec.bat (dosstart.bat)?

Most installations nowadays only load the Windows drivers. If you want to run a DOS based program you have to install the DOS drivers yourself.

Yes, the program does run from DOS. So, how do I go about loading the drivers? I may be a whiz with computers, but when it turns into working with DOS, I become a quivering mass of goo.
