I’m seeing the ads for the Madden football game on TV, but I don’t hear the sound (we turn it off at work so we can catch CNN news bulletins). They look pretty cool, with a perspective from on the field with players doing great moves, even strutting after a good hit.
The question is: we’re considering getting a game system early next year. Are these actual shots from the game, or are they exaggerating, like the Saturday morning toy ads that use fast pacing and “enhancements” to make the product look more exciting than it really is.
And does the animation really enhance the game play? Or are they just interesting eye candy that should be turned off when you’re ready to play?
I hope someone answers this soon. I always wonder the same thing after seeing the ads. I wonder to myself things like “How do you move the joystick to do the little touchdown dance, and why would you want to?” or “Which button controls chest-thumping?” or “How incredibly complicated would a game be if it really were what these commercials made it out to be?” I’m sure we’ll hear from people saying how great and realistic the games are, but I’m with you: isn’t it just “eye candy”? Do all these great graphics enhance the fun of playing?
Those are actual game shots, but typically from the game’s replay function. Actual game play keeps a more fixed perspective. Just like on TV really - the live shots are from far off, with close up, detailed replays.
