Maddow's Trump Tax Return announcement

So, this is interesting:

I don’t know quite what to think. My Facebook feed is, pardon the expression, all atwitter. Figure there might be some discussion of this over the next hour or two :).

I’m preparing myself for disappointment. I hope the truth is fully revealed, whatever it may be.

I’m seeing reports that they are from 2005.

Which, according to a friend who works with taxes, is not long ago at all in the tax world.

I hope. But in any case, this is sure to piss of Trump if nothing else, and that’s a good thing. Go ahead, poke him.

Eh, it’s not going to show much, at least it probably isn’t. Probably not much different from the partial return information we got from 1995 or whenever it was.

The big thing about conflicts of interests is your taxes just aren’t specific enough to show them, and that’s more of what we as Joe Public care about. The taxes can serve as a partial rebuttal of his claim of being a great businessman, depending on what they show, but there was a lot of other more tangible evidence his business acumen was questionable. Plus, he’s President now, people are judging him now on that job, not running the Trump Organization.

What it’s really a shame we don’t know is a comprehensive overview of his assets, investments, and liabilities. We just have broad generalities from mandatory financial disclosure forms.

The big thing is it’s going to piss Trump off, and he’s likely to overreact in a way that makes him look like a clown. Just the 500,000th time that’s happened, but I guess even if it peels off only a handful of supporters each time it happens, eventually it adds up.

Well, the White House is already tweeting about this show.

But, seriously, $150m in income seems pretty low for a multi-billionaire.

OMG, she won’t stop repeating herself. JUST GET TO THE POINT!

^that’s me yelling at Maddow.

Eh, there isn’t really a standard income annually for most billionaires. The typical billionaire sees wide fluctuations in wealth and a huge range of income scenarios on any given year.

I forgot where I heard it, maybe Michael Frum on Sam Harris’s podcast, but he said that federal tax returns have legal penalties if you show them while state returns do not. He said this is why the NY state returns have been released but the federal ones have not, anyone who releases them in the media will be committing a federal crime.

I don’t know how accurate that is though.

Argh I want to watch this and the website’s down. And I can’t watch it here cause everyone around me are Trump lovers.

The way Maddow is droning on about the same shit over and over, I kinda get the feeling this is a non-story.

Crap. I need an account to watch it live, and I can’t get one. I hope it’ll be up and viewable soon.

Does she usually jabber on like this? The whole first segment was a complete waste of time.

Yeah she does. It’s one of the reasons I stopped watching her to be honest.

The Guardian is liveblogging it here.

Thanks!

Meh. Not so much of a story after all, it seems. Maybe I’ll wake up tomorrow to be proven wrong, but I doubt it.

You’re welcome, AngelSoft
Okay, it’s looking like they’ve got the first two pages of the 1040, correct? ( From here. It arrived in the mailbox of David Cay Johnston, who has put an analysis of those two pages on DCreport.org , which I currently can’t reach.
