Now that’s it’s almost spring time again I thought what a better way to celebrate then by shooting your fellow Dopers?
There are a number of places to play at in the DC area, the best I’ve done is called AG Paintball in Leesburg, VA. The cost varies, but ranges about $35 per person for a gun rental. With more then 20 people it drops to $30 and we get an extra 2000 paintballs. For those with their own guns it costs $15 for the day.
For a group we would need two weeks notice and if we did get more then 20 people it would be a private game which is nice. They even say that kids 10 and older can play so you can make it a family event.
So who’s willing to be shoot at… I mean have a little fun?
I’ve always sort of wanted to do this, I’m sure by the end of the day I would be a paint-y mess, but if it’s all in good fun, what the hey. I’ll be glad to be outside again once the weather isn’t miserable.
The good thing is that you are more muddy then painty.
I just looked at my calender and April 5th looks good, that gives us almost a month and I know I can be there. Otherwise the weekend before and after that date I have plans. They want two weeks notice if we get enough people otherwise if there are only 10 or so of us then we can just go. Sunday the 6th is good too. I guess I’ll give this thread about a week and then call, they do want money up front if we want to go as a group or 20 or more. They want $10, which comes off the $30-35 (or 15) and I can front that. I’ll just make sure you pay me when you show up or I’ll have to shoot you!
Those dates look pretty good to me, and I’d certainly be up for an outdoor frolic …I’ve never been paintballing, but I trust that wild enthusiasm for leaping over shrubberies and disturbing the general peace will serve me well?
I might be able to make it up there, I can probably bring a few extra guns for people to play with- seeing as how I play for a sponsored team and run a paintball store
Great fields up there too, by the way.
Hmmm… can I get in on the gun borrowing TheOtherOne? Half the price = double the fun, or some such…I’ll even volunteer to give rides if anybody needs a ride from DC or on the way!
Ok since this thread started back up again, there is also a field un near Frederick, MD. Maybe that will bring some more people. The fields were not as nice, and not as many, but it was much cheaper. $10 for your own gun, 25 for a gun rental and paint, and the price goes up a bit. The nice thing is, at least I think, is that they did not say you could not bring your own paint. Heck if someone knew someone with a big yard, well over an acre, we could just rent them.
Unless someone knows another field in the area, maybe TheOtherOne? I think it would be a lot of fun.
I wasn’t trying to raise a dead thread, nooo, I’m just catching the Spring friskies, but I only moved here in August, so I’m not really sure on the where/what/who/hows of playing outside here…Dopers are good about this though- I’ve been following this and the hiking/camping/picnicing thread that RTFirefly started.
Basically I live in a brick monstrosity, and work in a windowless box (although the interior decorating is superior, doesn’t quite equal sky…) - I demand Spring with a quickness! The idea of doing anything that involves fresh air and no ice or snow, or sloppy combination of the above makes me bounce up and down in antici…insert RHPC crack here …pation. Speaking of which, perhaps I should bounce a bit more sedately, the boss is givin’ me the sidelong glance…
I’m with you - I almost popped a blood vessel this morning when I went outside and saw snow. I’m itchin’ to get out somewhere as soon as it’s not yechy to do so. But, I too work in a windowless office (in the basement, next to the fume-filled loading docks), and I’ve found the crude sketch of a window that I pinned up next to my desk to be of… well, not much help really, it’s actually kind of depressing. But I thought it might help.
But back on topic, I could care less if the spot is in Virginia, Maryland, etc, etc. I used to work with some guys way back when at an ISP who had some equipment in the middle of a barn in Maryland - which was surrounded by a big field. The barn itself was full of paintball equipment. Wish I still talked to 'em. I guess that wasn’t much help, but I’m over the workday hump and I’m getting a little antsy and don’t have much else to do besides waste bandwidth. Maybe I’ll open a window… oh, wait. :smack:
Tell me about the snow this morning! In an utterly futile protest I did not wear gloves this morning…Did I have some in my pocket? Sure. Did my hands turn a funny shade of blue? Sure. Did I show the weather who’s the boss? …no comment.
I can’t decide whether your crude sketch is more or less depressing than the one window I ever linger near- In the gym next door (a desolate and utterly sterile environment itself- who puts a gym in what by rights should be a cubicle??) there is a long bank of windows that overlooks- THE TRASH CHUTE!!!
Actually, a funny story. The first and only time I ever went paintballing, the very first time I was tagged, it was right between the eyes. 'Twas a funny laugh for all.
I’d be up for paint ball. I’ve never played before, but I’ve always wanted to try it. Is the suggested date still April 5th? I’m actually off that day. Odd.

That’s 14, I might be able to get a few more to show up, I can almost say my brother will and maybe a few people from work. Maybe I should get my dad in on it as well. Oh and my little sister too. Hopefully we will get 20+ people so if you know people from work or whatever bring em along. I will send out an e-mail today or tomorrow seeing who’s still intersted.
I would too, but it’s not a huge deal. It got me thinking though, since TheOtherOne has been so kind to volunteer at least a few guns for borrowing - who needs one?
I do, but go ahead and put me on the bottom of the list, obviously spending < money == better, but I’ll shell out the extra dough if I have to in order to make way for somebody else.
