Mafia: The Mob is Recruiting [Game Finished]

I def. agree with this. There’s ALOT more to Modding than I thought. However, it helps to work with another person. Even though I just do Nights and Dio deals with the Day threads, we still have to help each other, and it’s STILL a TON of work. I def. wouldn’t like to always mod again and again. But it def. is fun too.
Course we never paid attention to things like “balance” until waaay later into the Game’s setup. For us it was all about having fun, until the very end when we had to try to balance the game.

But still, it’s more work than I expected, especially for the first week when everyone’s got tons of questions and worries and ideas.

I’m the exception that proves the rule. :stuck_out_tongue:

I knew you were going to bring that up… grumble grumble…

I still think we need a sort of ‘back to basics’ game.

Bells and whistles are good for variety and keeping things interesting. But at its core, I think we need a bit more focus on scum-finding abilities rather than cool power-role inventing abilities.

If enough people were interested in a back to basics game. I’d run it.

ETA: But I wouldn’t do all-vanilla either. I found that to be rather boring as scum as there is nothing to find out or discuss at night.

What do you mean by a back to basics game? Because that was what YSI was supposed to be.

I think a good back to basics game would be like M1.

How about closed, but basic?

Shadow,

It might force people to produce analysis in those first three days. Alternately, night analysis could be allowed or post vote analysis during the day?

Hazel,

I don’t see any benefit from making the night of random length.

It would keep the scum on their toes, if nothing else. Although scum discussions usually don’t have the problem of people dithering until the last minute, I suppose.

NAF, to be honest I was expecting something like M1 when I heard the phrase “back to basics.”

Blaster Master - Scum slip! I knew it! You’re scum! Oh wait . . . :smack:

What is the protocol for starting a game?

I agree with this. Though I would argue that Asylum Lane was good “Basic” game with a new advanced features (as long as you ignore the chia bingo manager fiasco).

I would love to see another game like that again. Just focusing on the Town vs. Scum, with maybe 1-2 extras thrown in. It was also nice that the Town got to vote for what one of the extra roles could be.

So should I do one? If someone else is planning on running one I don’t want to swoop in. A basic setup is easy to start.

Well, that wouldn’t be the first time I’ve been called that. :frowning:

Fluid said she didn’t have a problem with having more than one, but I’m not sure if that’s necessarily a blessing to just post a game, as having too many could still be a board resource hog. I’d say it’d probably still be prudent to PM her and ask first.

Well sure, but M1 was only won by town because of the cop. That was the sory of lucky playstyle that I thought we were trying to get rid of.

Anyway, it’s fine by me to have a game like M1.

@sach

I was just thinking that maybe we shouldn’t abandon the idea of the mafia game list just because we have a forum. If we all start up games at the same time there won’t be anyone left to play. Maybe we could talk fluid into starting a mod list sticky for us, so we don’t overload? Just have 1-2 games running at a time and try to stager them so they don’t all start at once.

I agree. I LOVE mafia games myself, but I could only play/run in 2 games at a time. So I’d def. say you should only have 1-2 games running for sure. Maybe do the Newbie game, and the M1 Redux game, but nothing more than that.
So that the players don’t get tired (it’s one reason I waited a week with nothing on the off site thread before starting mine. I didn’t want people to burn out), and also there’s variety. So you don’t have 2 games of the same type being run too.
Right now there is a theme game offsite, here would be perfect for a newbie, and perhaps the old school game. But if there were 2-4 games being run here, it would just create mixed up confusion in roles, pms, and work. Easier not to get crazy but moderate yourselves.

Oh, I completely agree. I just think there is no reason not to get started if that’s what people want. If someone else ends up running his or her game. That’s fine too.

Well, I pm’d fluid about the sticky idea and she feels it is unnecessary. She said we should feel free to open multiple games if we want without needing moderator permission.

I still think that we should keep ourselves limited. I am thinking of taking USC’s game offboard. The more I think about it the more I think it is better suited for that arena. I do like the idea of having Hal’s newbie only game have a fun companion vet’s only game. Maybe a true bastard mod game for the vets’.

So to sach, I think all you need to do to start your game is, start your game.

Have at it, it should be fun.

Boo. I hate off-board games. I am way too lazy to keep up with them. Grumble.

Well I have to get USC to agree to it first. It’s his game, I will just be running it.

ETA: Also, some of the best games we have played have happened off board. You are missing out.

Well, maybe I’ll give it a try next time. It seems silly to say that keeping up with an off-board game requires extra effort than an on-board game, but I’m always on the SDMB anyway, whereas off-board would require me to, er, visit another board every day. On the other hand, all the colorfully themed games do seem to take place off-board.

Frankly, if we have Mod approval to have as many games as we’d like in the Game Room, I don’t see that there’s any particular necessity to take any of the games offsite. Especially since RoOsh is now over here, too. I wouldn’t want to crowd other games out, however it’s pretty much the same group of people playing regardless of location.

The only real reason I can see for hosting offsite is because it may be easier for players in more than one game to keep the games separate in their minds.

I don’t really care either way, just my two cents.

I like off this board games personally, they load faster for me anyway.

ETA Plus I can search all I want. And when it gets big thats important to me.
